Canaan Avalon Nano 3 Bitcoin Solo Miner Setup and Review

Canaan Avalon Nano 3 Bitcoin Solo Miner Setup and Review

Today I received a Canaan Avalon Nano 3 Bitcoin Solo Miner from millionminer, which is marketed as a heater and not as a solo miner. Of course, the device is somewhat questionable as a heater but all the more suitable as a solo miner, especially in comparison to the current Lucky Miner LV07.

The Lucky Miner LV07 has 2 ASIC chips from Bitmain, while the Nano 3 from Canaan is said to contain 10 ASIC chips.

The Canaan Avalon Nano 3 can be operated in 3 power levels: 65, 100 and 140 watts. Personally, I have currently opted for the lowest level and I am already getting around 2 TH/s. In 140 watt mode, up to 4 TH/s should be possible.

From my test, however, I can say that the Avalon Nano 3 has a sufficient hashrate in the lowest mode and is also whisper-quiet.

With the Lucky Miner LV07, I had to make numerous modifications to achieve a tolerable volume, but this is not the case with the Canaan Avalon Nano 3.

The test with a solo mining pool was also successful. The miner also copes with a higher pool difficulty without any problems, which is a big plus point.

Setup of the Avalon Nano 3 BTC miner

The setup is relatively simple; we first connect to the device’s open WLAN:

Then we can log in with the user “root” and the password “root”:

In the next step, we can select the “correct” WLAN and enter the password for it.

The miner then connects to the Wi-Fi and conveniently gives you the new IP as feedback:

You can then access the miner’s administration interface via the displayed IP with the user “root” and the password “root”.

You then need to enter a corresponding solo mining configuration under Configuration. I personally use lucky.millionminer.com on port 3333. You only need to enter the BTC wallet as the user name and “x” as the password.

Problem: Canaan Avalon Nano 3 loses the WiFi connection

Unfortunately, my Nano 3 lost the WiFi connection every time it was restarted. A new connection was possible by pressing and holding the “function button”:

However, it would be very inconvenient to re-enter the WiFi connection data every time. I therefore recommend downloading the “Remote Avalon Nano” app from “Canaan Inc.”. Here you add your miner using the IP and click on the small “upload cloud”:

This allows you to update the firmware. The connection then worked immediately, even after a restart.

Order Canaan Avalon Nano 3 in Germany

I received my Nano 3 from millionminer free of charge, which is why I naturally recommend that you order it there. Regardless of this, however, it is probably the easiest way to order a miner in Germany, Austria or Switzerland with German support.

Surprisingly, the miner even came with a quality power supply from a Lenovo Legion 3 with up to 140 watts.

Apart from that, this Bitcoin Solo Miner is also a visually very appealing device.

The front cover of the ventilation can be removed using a practical magnetic catch:

Conclusion on the Canaan Avalon Nano 3

The device is ideally suited for solo mining. In conjunction with the branded power supply unit, this device clearly seems to me to be the better choice.
