Windows 10: Turn off Core Parking

Windows 10 likes to park CPU cores, this is recognizable in the task manager by the addition “parked”. Unfortunately, the cores always need some time to be reactivated, which can have a negative impact on performance.

Happily, there is a way to set the minimum available (i.e. non-parked) cores in the power plan. However, the setting option is not available by default.

For the option to be available, the “regedit” command must first be executed with “Windows key + R”.

This opens the registry editor. Then, to the path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583

to be navigated.

Within this intricately named folder, the value

Attributes

shift from 1 to 0.

After that, the option “Processor performance: park cores – cores minimal” is available in the Advanced Settings of each power plan.

The current power plan is quickly found with a search for “Energy” after pressing the Windows key. Clicking on “Change advanced power settings” makes the option available under the “Processor power management”.

I recommend not parking at least 75% of the cores.
